Newsday (New York)

The Daedalus String Quartet, for a young group, has a long history that may help explain its rapid-fire success…. They thought it “might be fun” to learn some pieces for the Banff International Chamber Music Competition and invited Minneapolis violist Jessica Thompson to join them…. Their new foursome took the grand prize at Banff, Canada, in 2001, power-launching a concert career that took them to 50 cities last season, piling up gusher reviews. A San Francisco critic called their April concert there “a hair-and-fur-flying, take-no- prisoners flight through string- quartet masterworks that threatened to knock you right off your chair.”

Surrounded by a strikingly beautiful landscape, Banff has long established itself as a popular location for international artists who come to develop themselves both personally and professionally in an atmosphere congenial to artistic creativity.”

[Founding artistic director] Trina Rasmuson was first introduced to vertical dance in 1998 while attending a workshop by California’s Project Bandaloop company at the Banff Centre.
